Super Bowl Sunday

Updated: Apr 20, 2021

Super Bowl LV kicks off on Sunday, February 7, 2021 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers taking on the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City, Chiefs in Tampa Bay.

Just under two hours Southwest of Kansas City is the great town of Emporia, Kansas. (I wonder if they still have their "Drive-thru Zoo?") In Emporia, Lyon County Sheriff's Deputy Zach Shafer has been coming up with some great traffic safety signs to help remind people to drive sober this Super Bowl weekend and always buckle up.

You see, as a former Kansas City, Missouri Police Officer, I'm nearly required to root for Kansas City. Additionally, I spent several years working in Arrowhead Stadium as the Mascot for the the Kansas City Wizards Major Leage Soccer team (also owned by Lamar Hunt who owned the KC Chiefs) before they changed their name to Sporting KC and got their own stadium. My dressing room was just outside the Chief's lockeroom. It was pretty cool. Watching football games at Arrowhead stadium, from here in Missoula, the nostalgia hits hard.

During the few weeks leading upto the Super Bowl, a lot of planning takes place in households around the country. Why? It's Party Time!

This is also the time of year when I like to watch people attempt to load up gigantic TV's in small cars in the parking lot of Costco. This is true pre-game entertainment.

Guy attempting to lod up a large Samsung TV into the small back seat of a sports car. The bottom left corner of the box is resting on the ground and the bottom right corner of the box is just inside the vehicle's open drivers door with the guy holding the box. The box is clearly too big to fit in the car, but the guy is still trying.
I can get it to fit.

With all the planning that goes into having a great Super Bowl party, win or lose, please ensure that everyone has a sober ride planned before the party starts. Consider it a pre-game essential.

From one fan to another, please only drive sober and plan for a sober ride, before the party starts. Remember, if you feel different, you drive different.

Here is another great Super Bowl related traffic safety message that Deputy Shafer has come up with down in Emproia, KS. I love it.

Thank you, and Drive Safe Missoula.
